(An except from Debbie’s Journal.)
How often when we reflect on life, we narrow in on what we are not happy with instead of choosing to look at the good things. It’s amazing how encouraged you can get when you start looking for the good things rather. Take time to appreciate the many good (even the little and easily over looked) moments in life. Stop long enough and have a deep “drink of enjoyment” where normally you would have pasted these little moments by. It fills your days with joy. I fully believe God wants us to enjoy the life He has given me. Life always has its challenges, there seems to be a consistent sprinkling of them in our lives, and in order to enjoy life in the midst of them, we need to seek out the good, choose to dwell on (make our habitation in) the good. We need to go digging for the treaures in darkness, the mystery of enjoying life, and when we find them, drink them up- drink it to the last drop! My quest is to live a “beautiful life”. This is the mystery of the “BEAUTIFUL LIFE”, mining for the good, our focus on the treasures.
Philippians 4:4-8 “WHATEVER is true, WHATEVER is honorable, WHATEVER is just, WHATEVER is pure, WHATEVER is lovely, WHATEVER is commendable, if there is ANY excellence, if there is ANYTHING worthy of praise, think about these things.” [dwell on these things, live here] You might check out your difficulties and challenges as you need, but don’t live there! Look at your life and say, “Is there ANYTHING good, is there ANYTHING honorable, ANYTHING worthy of praise, etc.” and DWELL there, live there!
“Celebrate God all day, every day. I mean, revel in him!” (vs 4) Celebrating God would include celebrating all the good He has and is doing and all He has and is creating.
