There are so many beautiful prophetic words shared on social media with the new year around the corner. It encourages me as I see it as the evidence of the move of God in the prophetic where “everyone can prophesy” and hear the word of the Lord for themselves.
It does however emphasise, for me, even more, the need for each individual to HEAR FROM GOD FOR THEMSELVES what God is saying for THEIR new season.
If you were looking to see what God was saying at the start of the new year and there were only one or two prophetic words out, it would be far less confusing than it could seem now where there are literally hundreds (at least on my social media there is). Most are promising good things (which is indicative of a good God) but there is such a diversity of what God is going to do that literally it’s like you could take your pick of whatever you’d particularly like. In FOMO, we could take on everything, or we could just get cynical and despise them feeling that the “glut” has watered them all down to something almost valueless.
I don’t think either approaches are productive.
I am sure that these prophetic words are mostly from the Lord. But I’d propose that a lot of them are for the individual that received them, or for their community, or their particular nation (their metron or sphere of influence). The question you need to ask yourself is, is it for you?
Often it is easier to hand the responsibility for hearing God’s word for yourself to other people. And although these days on social media, you could “pick your word” like going out shopping, it further emphasises the importance of the move of God in this last season – you can (and should) hear God’s voice for yourself. Let me just include in that statement, the benefit and need for your CLOSE community to weigh and confirm that word. This only enriches and adds security as you move forward.
So my encouragement to you as you look forward to the new year is, take the time to hear God’s voice for yourself. He really wants you to hear what He is intimately speaking to YOU. Once you have done that, hear what the people around you are saying, especially, those in your close community – often God has something specifically for your family, your tribe, your community that is specific to your circumstances, season, etc. Collectively as you share what God has put on your heart, you will get an even clearer picture of God’s heart and faith will rise amongst you.
1 Thessalonians 5:20-21 “And don’t be one who scorns prophecies, but be faithful to examine them by putting them to the test, and afterward hold tightly to what has proven to be right.”
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
